The first bicycles have been made by the Weiss Manfred Steel and Metal Factory at Csepel, Hungary in 1929. The original licence was bought from Steyr-Daimler-Puch and produced more than 12 000 bicycles within a year, 35 000 in the next year.

In 1932 they've started to expand their lineup and patented more than 500 names till the end of the World War. In the post-war era, the standalone Csepel Bicycle factory been founded 1950, and the production capacity was around 35 000 yearly.

The company went through many changes but is on the market for 90 years. These days Csepel mostly sells bikes within Hungary.
